NEU The Wine Independent 94 Points: The 2018 Bellevue is deep garnet-purple in color. It delivers notes of cedar and sauteed herbs, over a core of baked plums and boysenberry preserves, plus a waft of cinnamon toast. Full-bodied, the palate is firm and lively, with a grainy texture and a bright, pure finish.”

James Suckling 95 Points: “Blueberry, plum, praline, dark=chocolate and cedar aromas. Dried lavender, too. It’s full-bodied with firm, sleek and caressing tannins. Polished, seamless layers of fruit and wood with a long finish. Such polish and class.”

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 94 Points: “Made of 100% Merlot, the 2018 Bellevue has a deep garnet-purple color and a profound nose of plum preserves, blackberry compote and stewed black cherries, followed by an undercurrent of cedar chest, violets, aniseed and iron ore with a touch of garrigue. The medium to full-bodied palate packs the mouth with wonderfully energetic black fruits and a lively backbone, framed by ripe, rounded tannins, finishing on a lingering ferrous note. Bellevue is the pretty little vineyard poised just above Château Angelus in Saint-Émilion. The soils here are clay/limestone, and it is planted to 100% Merlot.”

Rene Gabriel 18 Points: “Kunz Fassprobe 19: (100% Merlot) Opulentes, cremiges, dichtes, mineralisches Bouquet, schwarze Kirschen, Damassinepflaumen, Lakritze, Schiefer, schwarzer Pfeffer. Kräftiger, fruchtiger, breiter Gaumen mit samtener, süsser Frucht, viel gutem Tannin, fein üppiger Struktur, kräftiger, süsser Aromatik, langer, dichter Abgang.”
