Rene Gabriel 20 Points: “20: Dark garnet-purple with a rich center. Intense bouquet, licorice, cassis, walnut shells, cinnamon, red Peru balm, and black peppercorns. The nose is concentrated and has evolved over the last two years as one would wish for in a soon-to-be-mature Lynch. I observed the wine for about fifteen minutes before tasting the first sip. In the last olfactory examination, it was standing – in terms of aroma – almost in Napa Valley. On the palate, it has gained in richness since the last tastings, and although the tannins still pack a punch, they do so in a slightly more subdued form. The flow oscillates between arrogance and gracefulness. However, it effortlessly achieves this quantum leap. It is the first time I distinctly feel that it has transformed into one of the very best wines of this extremely popular Château. I now place it on the same centenary level as the 2000 vintage. The latter will probably exhibit a more classic tendency in the coming years. The 2009 Lynch tends more towards world-class excellence. (20/20). 21: UNINHIBITED 2009!!! This 2009 Lynch-Bages falls into the category of "uninhibited." Or even "outrageous." Once smelled, the spell is broken! One devours this Pauillac bomb uncontrollably and greedily, almost in an impulsive manner. Certainly, with further bottle aging in the next years, it will continue to improve. But there's almost no room for much more improvement. Because – it really can't get any better than this! And I'm usually an incorrigible lover of mature wines. (20/20).”
Inside Bordeaux 98 points: "Powerful, rich, tannins that are chewy and physical in the mouth. Liquourice bud, turmeric root, cloves, rose stems, with tight blackcurrant and softer blackberry fruits. The muscular structure of the appellation and the concentration of Lynch Bages add a more serious side to the generosity of the 2009 vintage, and together they make something very special. This is begining to open up, with plenty more to give. 70% new oak." Drinking Window 2024 - 2044, Reviewed on 03.11.22 by Jane Anson
Robert Parker Jr 98 points: "Performing even better from bottle than it did from barrel, this appears to be the finest Lynch Bages since the 2000, 1990 and 1989. According to the chateau, the 2009 has the highest level of polyphenols ever measured as well as high alcohol (nearly 13.5%). A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest largely Merlot with touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it is an expressive, voluptuously textured effort with unctuosity and powerful, juicy, succulent blackberry and black currant flavors, low acids, a layered, massive mouthfeel, but no sense of heaviness or fatigue. This exquisite Lynch Bages should drink well for 30+ years." Drinking Window 2012 - 2042,
Jeb Dunnuck 98 points: "In the running for the greatest vintage ever from this château, the 2009 Château Lynch-Bages is pure Pauillac magic, offering a powerful bouquet of blackcurrants, freshly sharpened pencils, smoked tobacco, and gravelly earth. It's full-bodied, has a concentrated, structured mouthfeel, building yet beautifully integrated tannins, and a great, great finish. It's just now at the early stages of its prime drinking window and has another 30 years of prime drinking ahead of it. I wish I'd bought more on release."
