Falstaff 98 Points: “Sparkling, deep dark ruby colour, delicate violet rim. Impressive nose with concentrated notes of cigar box, eucalyptus, then rich notes of blackcurrants, mulberries, slightly earthy tones in the background. Fills the palate, full-bodied, dense tannins, dark berry fruit and lots of tobacco, earthy notes on the finish.”

Antonio Galloni, Vinous 95 Points: “The 2022 Concerto di Fonterutoli, 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, is a hugely promising wine. Big fruit and juicy contours lend quite a bit of immediacy. All things considered, Concerto is beautifully done for the vintage. I would give it a few years in bottle, as it needs time to develop more layers of aromatic nuance.”

“The Mazzei 2022 Concerto di Fonterutoli is lovely, with a dark and velvety character that holds strong over a long, polished finish. The style encapsulated here is modern classic in this celebrated blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Tuscan grape finishes in large oak casks, and the French variety ages in barrique. Production is 38,000 bottles“

Jane Anson 96 points: “Love the slow build of this wine, it gently climbs through the palate, savoury and restrained at first, then opening up with a smile, plenty of welcoming dried herbs, chamomile tea, dried rosebuds, orange peel, raspberry fruits. Great quality, full of concentration and lift, push and pull, and just so juicy on the finish. Great stuff, from soils of decomposed limestone and sandstone, aged in large oak casks for the Sangiovese and small barrels for the Cabernet Franc, then 3 months in concrete tanks before bottling. Mazzei family, winemaker Gionarta Pulignani. Tasted with the September Releases and again at the estate.”
