Doctor Wine 99 Points and “red wine of the year”: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Carmenère, 10% Merlot. Two years in barrique. Deep, almost impenetrable in its vital red, harmonious color of great depth. Spicy fragrances, small summer fruits, and the breath of a lush autumn oak forest. The sip is even more enchanting than other memorable vintages: polished tannins, in tune with perfect acidity, for a persistence that has the inexhaustible. It is the subdued magic of a wine that stimulates enveloping passions. (N.P.)
James Suckling 97 points: "An elegant, cool-climate wine with aromas of citrus leaves, kiwis, eucalyptus, leather, smoke and dark tobacco. Medium-bodied, it shows leafy flavors, soft and elegant silky tannins, crisp yet integrated acidity, a brilliant finish and a long, brooding aftertaste. Vegan. Sustainable. Drinkable now, but best from 2026." , Reviewed on 06.05.25 by James Suckling
Markus Del Monego 98 Points:” Purple colour with slightly violet hue and garnet tinges. Complex nose with aroma reminiscent of ripe plums, sweet blackcurrants, juicy blackberries, mulberries and black cherries. Roasted red peppers in the background, gingerbread spice, discreet toasting and fine oak. On the palate multi-layered with excellent aromatic depth, ripe fruit reminiscent of blackcurrants and blackberries, plums and black cherries, peppery spiciness in the finish, fine oak spices and hints of dried aromatic herbs. A great classic with excellent potential”
The Robert Parker’s Wine Advcoate 95+: “The 2020 San Leonardo is a historic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot born from the vision of the Guerrieri Gonzaga family and the legendary Italian enologist Giacomo Tachis, who worked on this wine from 1985 until 2002 (when current winemaker Carlo Ferrini took over). San Leonardo shares a similar blueprint as Sassicaia, and like that giant of Tuscany, this bottle really starts to strut its stuff with at least 10 years of bottle age. At this young stage, it shows tart berry flavors and some green herbal overtones. Experience teaches us that the wine starts off slow but eventually leans into polished, silky tannins and bright flavor intensity. Patience is required.”
